Himalayan Neck Cowl

A New pattern by cat bordhi
Himalayan Cowl

This very elastic neck cozy resembles the bottom of an egg crate on the purl side (above) and has an elegant knit design on the other side (other photo).

Himalayan Cowl - bumps out!
Cat in Iceland wearing the Himalayan Cowl.

While browsing through Cat’s digital files, I discovered this hidden gem – the Himalayan Cowl pattern.

What a delightful surprise it was! I quickly shared it with three test knitters who couldn’t resist the charm and chance to help. To my amazement, two more FOs appeared and I was just tickled pink.

The cowl was originally intended to be worn inside out (from its current state), the texture created by the unique “bumps” on the outside stole everyone’s heart during one of Cat’s retreats and so it found its new orientation. I couldn’t agree more – I just adore the way it feels.

I was patiently waiting for the perfect moment to release the pattern, eagerly anticipating an opportunity to capture more stunning photos. Then, as fate would have it, this glorious photo appeared in Cat’s feed (Thank you, Leanne Terry) – it warmed my heart to see Cat’s smile and I instantly knew it was the one. It effortlessly embodied the essence of our knitting hero and became the ultimate hero image for this pattern!

Speaking of heroes, Sivia Harding, a talented and gracious knitting designer, went above and beyond by knitting a beautiful version of this pattern with a little extra room for those who prefer a more spacious fit. She kindly added the “large” version to accommodate different preferences. Sivia, your dedication and willingness to help are truly appreciated! Thank you!

This is definitely one of my absolute favorite cowls now. The intricate stitching and soft, luxurious yarn make it both stylish and cozy. Once you try it on, you’ll instantly fall in love with the marvelous bumps as well as with its warmth and comfort.

Much love and happy knitting,

Val Curtis

Yarn Used: HiKoo Sueno, 1 skein of mountain fog, 1 skein of bashful, 1 skein of plum and 1 skein of slated. Each skein is 255 yards. 2. Caron Simply Soft from my stash, unsure of quantities, used 10 colors.

Tips: 1. Followed original pattern except for 1. 2 decrease wedges and 2 decrease wedges; 2. the very end where I completed last wedge and cast off using 3 needle bindoff, didn't do the unique wrong side row. 2. I cast on 120 stitches, adding an extra 20 stitches because I wanted it longer and wider, adding an extra w&to to each wedge making it wider. At the end I completed the last wedge, then repeated row 1, then the unique WS row before 3 needle bind off. 6-1-3-1-6 wedges. For the description of the K-below I would add the word /through after the word into.
