A Treasury of Magical Knitting

Treasury of Magical Knitting

In response to the overwhelming enthusiasm of her Magical Knitting Workshop students, who told her that "this has to be your next book," Cat spent months leaping out of bed in the middle of the night with sudden realizations of new ways to stretch the magic of Moebius-derived knitted forms.

All 33 projects start out as a Moebius scarf, which begin with a unique cast-on so simple that it can be done behind your back. After that, every stitch is set to rotate into place, ready to be knit, on and on until the scarf is ready to bind off. There are no wrong turns to take in the land of Magical Knitting, so you are home safe.

The book begins with scarves, which lead naturally into hats, then into felted fringed boots with Moebius bootstraps, and finally into capes. Cat's trademark clarity, thoroughness, and sense of humor make this book perfect for new knitters as well as the most experienced.

Corrections for A Treasury of Magical Knitting

page 15
Second paragraph under heading, Counting MCO stitches, it should read: "Count each scoop as one stitch. Notice that for every two stitches you scoop, two matching stitches appear on the cable beneath the needle. You will be knitting these lower stitches, but do not count them when you cast on or you will end up with half as many stitches as you need!"

page 20
Numbers on bottom row of chart should read:
224 280 336 392

page 31
Shifting Colors Moebius (scarf)
Under heading, Middle
Repeat from *3 times

page 45 Under heading, Border, final sentence should read: "You have 266 sts.”

page 46 and 47
Scottish Wave Scarf - on page 46, under heading, Gauge, 20 sts = 4" (10 cm). Finished size: Scarf is 40" in circumference and 11" wide. On page 47, under heading, Middle, Round 4: Purl. Cut tail of charcoal. Round 22: Purl. Repeat rounds 21 and 22 three times. In the 3rd printing, the previous changes have been made. Another correction, the elimination of rounds 5-8 was also made (those rounds
should not have been there to begin with). However, subsequent round numbers were not changed to reflect the missing rounds. Please follow this order: Ignore the missing rnds 5-8 - they are supposed to be missing. Rnd 9 should be rnd 5. Rnd 10 should be rnd 6. Then repeat rnds 5 and 6 five times. Rnd 21 should be rnd 17. Rnd 22 should be rnd 18. Then repeat rnds 17 and 18 three times. Rnd 25 is rnd 25. After rnds 26-37, repeat rnds 5-16. After that the numbering is correct.

page 53
Under heading, Yarn and design suggestions, starting with second sentence, it should read: "This is because the Moebius nature of the scarf requires an even number of repeats for correct placement along the spine, and a single repeat is 14 stitches. If you were to add 14 stitches, the even number I have established would then be odd, soo you have to add 2 repeats at a time instead, which is 28 stitches. You could make a lovely shorter Moebius - something that would lie around your neck like a loose, lacey collar - on and MCO of 84 or 112 stitches (which are 6 or 8 repeats).

page 58
Under heading, Middle, instead of working rounds 1-4, which would be 4 rounds, work only 2 rounds (knit odd round, purl even round). This makes the center garter pathway the same width as the outer ones.

Reversible Lotus Blossom (Hat)
Under heading, Crown grows upward:
Round 6: *Knit 2, M1R, k1, M1L, k2, p1, p3tog, p1, repeat from * to marker.
Round 8: *Knit 3, M1R, k1, M1L, k3, p3tog, repeat from * to marker.

page 74
Under heading, Foot: For the largest size (this does nto apply to the small or medium), you will have 22 sts between the markers (these sts are on the top of the foot). Move 1 of them to the bottom needle so there are 21 sts on each needle when you begin the toe decreases.

Seven Socklings Necklace
Under heading, Begin Necklace Band, in Round 1:
*Knit 11 sts with waste yarn. Cut tail of waste yarn. Replace sts on left needle
and knit over waste yarn with regular yarn. Knit 11 sts. Repeat from *6 times.

Under heading Moebius Collar, it should read "With merino ribbon . . ."

Page 87
Under heading, Finishing collar, it should read "With Moguls and size 13 needle, . . ."

Page 89

Page 93 Under heading, short row undulations, it should read: "Knit 13. Sl&w 1 and turn. Knit 12. Sl&w 1 and turn. Knit 11. Sl&w 1 and turn."
